Garza County was created in 1876, organized on July 8, 1907 and named for the pioneer Garza family. The West Central part of the county is on level High Plains above the Cap Rock Scarp. Central and eastern parts are on the rolling plains that stretch from the foot of the Cap Rock. The altitude of the county varies from about 2,200 in the southeast part to 3,000 feet on the Plains and covers 914 sq. miles.
